S04 E19 - Fat Cats (and Dogs)

Jon, Jeri and Blondie

  • What’s the weather?

  • What shirt are you wearing?

  • Vince’s Groaners

Jon gives us his take on Lori Loughlin, who seems to have become the face of the Varsity Blues scandal, because of the stark contrast between her behavior and that of Felicity Huffman. Huffman was humble and remorseful. She pled guilty on her $15,000 bribe, and took full responsibility. Lori and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, pled not guilty on their $500,000 bribe, and refused to take a plea deal.

That’s taking a pretty big risk to avoid jail time. Lori has also made herself look kind of arrogant and out-of-touch by signing autographs outside the courthouse. Jon speculates on whether the former star of the Hallmark movies will now be the subject of a Lifetime movie. Hallmark= moral, feel-good movies. Lifetime= trainwreck-style life stories.

The Brothers talk about Tiger Woods’ stunning comeback, winning the Masters on Sunday. After 11 years of pain, back injuries and scandal, he won by one stroke. He’s had four back operations, including very risky fusion surgery. Unlike his other wins, he was humbled and emotional. His son ran up and jumped into his arms. His Mom and daughter hugged him, Mom not seeming all that into the hug.

Jeri compares the presidential run of Mayor Pete Buttigeig to professional wrestling. Yes Jeri, not Jon. He describes wrestling scenarios where there is usually some big bully, liar, and cheat that has to be challenged. He says that now Lou Thesz is in the ring (some kind of hero, I assume). Could Mayor Pete could be our Lou Thesz?

His stats are impressive; Rhodes Scholar, decorated Afghanistan veteran, speaks and reads seven languages… just the fact that he can read is an enormous step up.  Pete found his courage on the battlefield. It gave him the strength to come out as a gay man. He said that when you’re going out on patrol in a war zone, nobody cares whether you’re coming home to a girlfriend or a boyfriend.

The Anchor Topic is Plump Pets and it’s shocking! 59.5% of cats and 55.8% of dogs are overweight or obese. Many veterinarians don’t even bring up an animal’s diet, they have to be asked about it. One of the biggest problems is the giving of TREATS. Owners think they’re rewarding their pets, while they are really slowly killing them. And you thought only people had weight problems.

The Bros talk about some under- covered, often startling topics, while intertwining current events into their discussions. The fire at Notre Dame Cathedral was mentioned. It can be rebuilt and the bell tower was saved, initiating a shout-out to the hunchback. These are things you can only hear on the Bro Show.
